If you have never visited Maine, you really need to make the trip. The weather is absolutely spectacular! We have not had to use the AC since New Hampshire. We sleep with the windows open at night and the days are very comfortable. In this area near Acadia National Park there are flowers everywhere and oh so blue skies. Perfect weather for outside activities which we have certainly done.

We started out biking in the park. Since no disasters happened this week, thank goodness, I will give some observations. Observation #1 – There is not enough parking in the park. We learned the first day that you have to get out early to get a spot. Biking was fun though challenging. Observation #2 – This area is not flat lands. Kean had to teach me how to really use my gears on the bike. Years of riding in flat Virginia Beach did not prepare me for climbing in the mountains on a bike. I have to sadly admit that I did have to get off and walk the bike on two occasions. I know, I know, I am a complete wimp!  Kean did get a chance to get on his road bike at the park for a nice hilly ride.  Smartly I was back home doing less adventurous things.  (Kean needed some alone time 😉  and so did Kathy.)

Next came hiking. My dear sweet husband decided we should hike Cadillac Mountain. The word “mountain” should have been red flags for me, right? Looking at the trail map it was only about 5 miles. 5 miles is nothing I thought — we’ve hiked 15 in VB. We chose the “strenuous” route down and the “moderate” going up. What I didn’t know is that down is straight down and up is straight up. Geez! And the majority of the hike was on rocks. I will sadly admit again that I was dragging my old butt up the last part of that mountain taking lots of stops to “admire the views”.

We started the hike at the top.  If you come up to Maine you have to drive to the top of Cadillac Mountain and take in the view. The photos I took just don’t show the true beauty of it. The panoramic photo at the top of the blog post here is one of the views.

This has been a very good week of biking, hiking & sightseeing around the park and the coast.  Bar Harbor (or Bah Hahbah as the locals say it) was a nice little town that is a must see.  Observation #3 – People take their dogs everywhere.  You will see them outside at a nice restaurant under the table where their family is eating.  The waitstaff even brings out a doggy bowl of water.  So sweet.

Since we have covered this area pretty well, today we head about 2 hours inland.  Time for some golf!
