Nice view! This is from the top of Cowles Moutain – the highest point in San Diego. We spent a little over four weeks in the San Diego area. The first two and half weeks were spent down in Chula Vista at a bayfront RV park. We had a week at one of the bayfront spots where we pulled the motorhome in and the front window overlooked the bay. Since we were only able to get a week in that spot, we just moved one row back to spend the next week and a half. Even though the views were nice, I would not return to this park. It was suffocating.  The sites were just too close together. The one good thing about being at this RV park was the close proximity to the trolley station. In case you are not aware, San Diego traffic is horrific. We were able to take the trolley to the downtown area and from there a quick bus ride to Balboa Park. I just love public transportation done well. Inexpensive, clean and safe. Much safer than six lanes of traffic with everyone weaving in and out. Here are some of the sights of downtown and Balboa Park.

From Chula Vista we were able to easily get to Coronado for what turned out to be a 30 mile round trip bike ride. It was great because San Diego really knows how to do bike paths. We also played golf there in the shadow of the Coronado Bridge.

After leaving Chula Vista we headed a little north to Santee Lakes. Although we didn’t have a water view we did have more space. It enabled us to have the family over to our place to sit outside and grill up a nice tasty chicken dinner. Of course margaritas and beer were included in the menu. Was that what lead to the “spirited” after dinner discussions?  Probably so.  It really was great being in the San Diego area to spend time with some more family. We even did some hiking together in Torrey Pines.  Those are some views that I will never forget.

We decided not to play the Torrey Pines Golf Course just yet. My game is not worthy. Enough said.

While on the coast we did a couple of trips back to the desert to see Kean’s parents. One day trip at Easter with Kean’s sister Karyn where we all pitched in and made a fabulous dinner for the folks.  Not your traditional Easter dinner, but what the heck!  It is no fun being traditional.

And while there, Kean got to show his Mom how to record her old cassette tapes and albums onto CD’s. Next year he will move them to the digital world. parents

So now we are sitting in Port Hueneme. For you non-military folks this is near Oxnard, Ventura, and Santa Barbara. We are on base and we chose a RV site at the far back of the park that is walking distance to the golf course. It doesn’t get any easier. We load up the clubs on our walking carts, cut through the walkway from the park to the course and walk right by the eighteenth green to the club house. Not the greatest of courses but for the price and convenience you just can’t beat it. Maybe with lots of practice here I can get ready for Torrey Pines (okay, probably not!).
