Wow! It has been a busy few months. On my last post we were wrapping up the summer and making our way south to Southern California. While in Page AZ, we did a day trip over to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. If you will recall, we did the South Rim during our spring trip north. The North Rim is equally as beautiful but much less crowded.
During this part of the trip we stayed in a campground right at Lake Powell. Another beautiful place to visit but watch out for their monsoon-like storms. We got to experience one that sunk some boats, including a houseboat where a women lost an arm. It was a terrible storm. I thought for sure that our motorhome was going to blow over. We did some bike riding and played some very inexpensive golf. After the storm, we elected not to go out on the lake for obvious reasons.
We also visited a place called Horseshoe Bend. As you can see from the photos, it was spectacular. And I thought Kean was awfully brave to go out and sit on that ledge. You wouldn’t catch me out there.
So with all the sightseeing completed we headed for a quick visit with Kean’s parents before heading east. We took I-40 across country and drove for 8 days ending up in Virginia Beach. We got to visit with many of our friends in between all our doctor’s appointments. We played in 2 golf tournaments and also played a bunch more golf with our old golf pals. It was just like old times and we had a blast. It was great catching up with everyone.
But I have to tell you about the accident we had in the motorhome while there. We are soooo careful driving this big thing and have gone back and forth across country several times with never a scratch. Well one day we are sitting in the motorhome, Kean on the computer and I am reading when BAM!!, we are hit. A guy in a riding lawnmower tried to mow under our slide out and clipped the edge and scraped the side. We also found out when bring the slide in that he knocked it out of alignment. What a mess! Never a dull moment that is for sure.
We decided to leave Virginia Beach a day early and head to Richmond to see if we could get the slide mechanism repaired and fortunately that did happen. We left the RV in a campground just north of Richmond VA and drove the Jeep to our annual Thanksgiving gathering in New Jersey. Taking the RV through Washington DC and up into NJ is just a pain. Once there it was great to see family and friends though we wish Kean’s Aunt Dorothy would have been feeing better. Dorothy, we wish you all the strength in the world to fight your battle with cancer and we pray for you daily. So with the turkey cooker down this year, we had to step up our game. Here is a photo we just received that shows two rookie turkey cookers trying not to mess up the bird.
With the festivities behind us, we hit the road for 10 long days of driving. We are now back in the California desert to spend the next 3 months with family. We will be doing projects, getting the RV body damage repaired and playing lots of golf. Enjoy your winter folks — I know we will.
Glad you are living your dream and traveling to all these fantastic places.
How many miles have you driven?
