One Year Come and Gone

I can’t believe it but on August 3rd we have now been on the road for a year. We have seen and experienced so much and feel so blessed to be able to live our lives this way. Yes, those first couple of months were a big learning curve and a bit scary at times but with that behind us we settled into our new reality. And that reality changes all the time. We are seeing so much of this wonderful country and doing the things that we sought out to do. And the best part is being able to catch up with our family and friends along the way. I have to say — Life is Good!

So, where are we now? We are settled in Minden NV for a couple of weeks. We are headed back to the Palm Desert area in California to spend a week with Kean’s parents before heading back east. We left Washington ten days ago and were a little sad to leave. In hindsight we left about a month too early because in traveling south we are finding the weather to be quite warm. We’ll remember that for next year.

I’ll catch you up on our last couple of weeks that we spent while parked at Whidbey Island. I sure am missing that wonderful waterfront site we had there with the sights, sounds and smells of the water. What was so great about it was that we never knew what we would see from our front window. This was an unusual sight that we caught one morning. And Kean put his new found photography skills to work when the artichokes in the RV Park bloomed. I just have to share.

Well I told you that I wanted to go back to the Olympic Peninsula and bike on that 130 mile bike trail and we did do it. We took the ferry over again and spent the day riding two segments of the trail out and back. We parked in Sequim and rode east, stopped at an Indian Reservation for a picnic lunch, and then rode back. After a short snack break (yes, I eat a lot!) we headed west for that segment and then back. We rode about 25 miles with some hills, especially at the beginning. Here are some photos of that trip. And that last one is of Kean stopping to talk to his Mom. When Mom calls you know you have to answer! 😉

We drove north, almost to the Canadian border, to Blaine. There is a resort there (with a golf course) that came highly recommended so we knew we had to go. The Semiahmoo Resort really was quite beautiful. We drove up, had a lovely lunch, and then went out and showed our less than stellar golf skills to anyone that was watching on that beautiful course. Who says you have to score well to have fun? We had lots of fun and got our money’s worth.

Another highlight of the Washington trip was getting to spend time with Frank & Dianah Parker again. We extended our stay there for two days because Frank was due back in town. We spent two wonderful days with them on their sailboat. And although we didn’t have much wind to do a lot of sailing we made the best of it and had tons of fun. I even got to drive the boat out of the marina. Frank and Kean are good sailors so Dianah and I just kicked back and enjoyed the ride. I do want to learn a little sailing so maybe the guys will give me a few lessons next year.    You can tell from the photos that we had a blast! Thank you Frank & Dianah!! See you next year.
