We are almost across. We left Louisiana and took three days to get across the huge state of Texas. First night was in Beaumont and then Schulenburg. I had never heard of Schulenburg but was pleasantly surprised by what we found. Schulenburg TX is designated “Home of the Painted Churches”. After we got set up we took the driving tour and made a visit to three of them. The photo above is St. Mary’s Catholic Church. It is amazingly beautiful. Here are some more photos of the Painted Churches:
After Schulenburg we hit Kerrville and then Van Horn. Not too much to see between Kerrville and El Paso. I had planned to take the wheel on this leg since there isn’t much out there but I decided we were having such a good week that I didn’t want to ruin it. I am a great co-pilot and Kean a great driver so why mess with what is working. Okay, maybe I chickened out.
If you saw the Facebook post, we hit snow in the high altitude of Arizona. Luckily we were just 20 miles out from our stopping point so we pushed through. Not cold enough to stick so it wasn’t too bad.
We now sit in El Mirage AZ — right outside Phoenix. We have been here a week and have really enjoyed it. We have hiked to the top of Camelback Mountain. Tough, cold, but fun. Someone even got a Christmas tree up to the top. Not sure how that happened because I had a tough time dragging myself up. It was a beautiful 360 degree view from the top.
One week in this area was definitely not enough so we will definitely be back.
One other photo I want to share is this sunset that Kean captured in New Mexico.
We head out tomorrow for Indio CA. We get to spend the Holidays with the family. We will be parked there for a month and I know we will cherish and enjoy every minute. With that being said, we want to wish all of you the merriest of Holidays and the wish for Peace on Earth.
Michael, Thank you and Happy New Year to you. We are truly enjoying our journey and looking forward to traveling North and following the warm weather this spring.
Happy New Year to both of you. We enjoy reading your posts – keep enjoying yourselves and stay safe.
